What have you learned in your CAS class that is useful in the Information facet of IST? What have you learned in the Information facet that is useful in group communication?
What examples from your group's interaction are relevant to a Information perspective?
How do you think what you have learned in the Information facet will affect your future career?
Recently I have just finished the information facet of the IST 110 program. In this facet we learned about data, and information; and how current technology has been developed around the handling of them. The CAS class was useful in that class, as well as the information class was useful in CAS. The information facet will definitely effect my career decisions in the future.
In CAS there have been several readings that helped me in the Information facet. One of the major things that helped me was the reading on audiences. After learning about different types of audience, (McMurry) I was able to address the class more appropriately. There were also other parts of the class that helped such as the readings about group roles. This particular reading helped our group function better in the Information Facet. The reading about the group norms, (Ratzburg) was also very good. It helped our group do better at class presntations. As for things that I have learned form the Information facet that could be useful to this class there are not as many. The class dealt too much with theory of data and information. The only way I used any of what I learned in that facet was how to produce good data with our project proposals.
Our interactions between group members are not so relevant to the Information perspective.
The Information perspective dealt with raw data and information, not with people or interactions with people. With the absence of the people part from this class there is little relevance to the CAS class. We did however get to demonstrate some examples of what we created in class. This action went better after the practice we got in the CAS class with group speech.
There are several things that once learned in the Information facet that will change my choices in the future regarding my career. The most important thing is that when I am making decisions, designing or anything along those lines I will look at data from many different angles. I will try to decide what is the best way to handle data and distribute it to the people. One other thing that could affect my career would be how I look at current technologies. I could try to take existing ideas and put my better understanding of information to use to create a better more effective design.
The Information facet was a decent paring with the CAS class. I think that the new facets such as the people facet will draw from the speech techniques that the CAS class has to offer.
