Information Facet Response – Steven Lewis
The information facet of IST 110 was a very useful class. I was able to apply knowledge from CAS to help me, as well as applying what I learned in this facet to our CAS class. Some of what I learned in this facet will also affect my future career.
First off, much of what I learned in CAS 100B was useful for the information facet of IST 110. This facet included group work each day of class. We had very little time to organize our information, and put together a presentation of our information. Many times, we had to use a certain technology, which maybe only one or two people in the group knew how to use. In CAS we learned how to work as a group and divide up the work. This helped our group a lot, because we were able to give each person a task very easily, based on what they knew how to do. We all had roles that we played, that were different each day. Based on the roles given by Wilf Ratzburg, we were able to pinpoint the roles we used. We always had a coordinator and a recorder, with someone usually just volunteering for that. We also had a few initiators, putting out ideas, and a few elaborators, to take the ideas and expand, giving something for the recorder to write (Ratzburg).
We also applied what we learned in the information facet to the CAS class. We learned about many great websites, all which have different uses. We were able to use some of these websites in our group project for CAS. He showed us a few websites that were good search engines for multimedia, which we found very useful while making our final Power Point presentation.
There are many examples from our group interactions that are relevant to the information facet. When we did research to try and find information for our project, it was very similar to what we did in the information facet. We had to research ideas and papers and find relevant information.
Lastly, there are many things I learned in the information facet that will affect my future career. We learned how to go through sources of information and find the information that was relevant. This is going to be important in my career, whatever it is, because there is so much information out there, that I will need to be good at picking out what is useful. An article on the Clickz Network website talked about how search engines use paid inclusion. This means websites pay money to have their sites included with certain search terms. This site tells how important it is to be able to find relevant information, because you never know if a site just paid to have themselves displayed (Rodgers).
