What have you learned in your CAS class that is useful in the Technology facet of IST?
The main thing that we have learned in CAS class is the Problem Based Learning Method. The PBL method basically means that the students are presented with the problems first and then have to figure out these problems to get the answers. There is no teaching involved, but the students working together in teams to find out the right solutions to the problems that we are presented with. This is directly related to the Technology facet in IST because when we are have our job after graduation, we will be faced with many problems. These problems will focus mainly on technology aspects considering that is what we have majored in, and we will have to find the right solutions to all of these problems. By learning the PBL method now, we are preparing for the rest of our working lives.

What have you learned in the Technology facet that is useful in group communication?
In the Technology facet of IST we mainly have been learning about the internet and some of the history behind it. Also, we have been learning about how to make a video for our project, which is helping with our group communication skills that we are gaining from CAS class. In order for us to be effective we should, "Give all participants something to prepare for the meeting, and that meeting will take on a new significance to each group member." (EffectiveMeetings.com) When this is done, the communication between the group at that meeting will be much better because everyone will have what they needed to do done. For the group video, we all have to be willing to take time out of our busy days and come to the meetings we have planned to start taping. Also, we had to split the tasks between us like editor, script writers, someone to tape, actors, etc. This movie project is something that will definately expand our group communication and make our meetings more effective.

What examples from your group's interaction are relevant to a Technology perspective?
One example from our group's interaction that relates to the Technology perspective was the one problem about the "Smart Dorms". We tackled this problem wrong the first time by looking at what we wanted the smart dorms to include. The problem was to find out how we would determine the important features, so we had a little miscommunication within the group. This problem made us all think as a group and we each put our input in on how this problem could be solved. This was a PBL type question because we were faced with this problem and had to come to an agreement within the group for the final answer to this problem.

How do you think what you have learned in the Technology facet will affect your future career?
I think that everything we are learning in the Technology facet is directly affecting our future career. We are in a field that deals directly with technology, so everything we are learning about is definately going to help us when we find a full-time job after graduation. We also are learning about the internet and that " nobody really owns it" ,and " It is a global collection of networks..." (Tyson 1). This background information will allow us to expand our knowledge in all aspects of technology from the past into the future.
