What is a group?
What is a group? A group in my opinion is two or more people who come together with a common idea in mind. They are placed into this situation either on a volunteer status or due to circumstances such as work or school. Some groups come together for recreation, while others come together to solve a problem. Both groups are very common although the groups that are set up to solve problems are more complex. These people come together and must work with each other to solve a common problem. Every group must have a leader, a person who will hopefully lead the group in the right direction. The leader must assign tasks and control conflicts within the group. The main idea of this type of group is teamwork; members must keep the common goal in the back of their mind and put aside differences in order to work together. Members of the group must be able to communicate effectively since they must bounce ideas off one another to seek the solution. Once the group determines the solution, they do not disband for they must present their solution to the person or group that assigned this task. Presenting the solution is a great feeling. A group helps people make friends and gives them a sense of satisfaction through helping.
What is a group? - Revised
I believe that my explanation of a group was pretty much correct. One part I would change is the part that says there must be a group leader. While in a lot of groups it is necessary, some groups do not need a leader. This was seen clearly in our group. Although Steve would sometimes tell us what to do, he was never appointed the leader. We assigned most tasks on our own by volunteering. I agree with the final few lines of the paragraph where it states the group gets satisfaction by presenting the solution. Nittany Solutions exemplified this statement. After presenting our solution yesterday, we were the happiest kids in the world and held a sense of satisfaction.
Stage of Development
My group is a unique one, a group of friends that are firefighters. I believe we are in the final stage – adjourning. Two years ago, a few firefighters became friends and decided we needed to make some changes at our fire company. We brainstormed and bounced ideas around and began making friendships. We began setting up fundraisers, bought new needed equipment, became more involved in public relations, and had fun. Our leader was the assistant chief and the rest of us worked diligently on our separate ideas. Some of us helped set up a monthly breakfast and an annual gun raffle. I maintained and redesigned our website and made a recruitment video with the help of others. We also searched for the latest equipment and strove to buy it. When we weren’t working, we also did “extra-curricular” activities together, such as going out for chicken wings, going camping, watching our favorite TV program every week, and having a cook-out at the firehouse. With all of this we succeeded, and now we are working on the final stage. Recently one of the members of our group went to Basic Training for the National Guard, another went on the be a career firefighter in Maryland, I left for State College, and our leader graduated college and is pursuing a career as a physician’s assistant. As these times came, we said our personal good-byes and our group adjourned, hopefully to reunite and perform more tasks.
