Technology Facet-Based Discussion

What have you learned in your CAS class that is useful in the Technology facet of IST? What have you learned in the Technology facet that is useful in group communication?
In my CAS class, I have learned several different things that were made use of during my time in the Technology facet of IST. In CAS, people of all backgrounds were integrated together into a group. This is my first real experience with something like this, and adapted me to getting to know other people and developing good relationships with them, knowing I’d be working with them for the entire semester. This has developed my speaking skills and opened my mind to other’s ideas and that everyone has a different way of looking at things in life. In the Technology facet, we had to create a movie presenting some type of technology. The making of this movie helped our group communication because we had to always know what everyone else was working on. With the skills acquired from both classes, we were able to make our movie in a very smooth fashion, and it showed it went well as our professor was very happy with our work.
What examples from your group's interaction are relevant to a Technology perspective?
Current technology really helped our group’s interaction. From the first day of meeting everyone in the group, we all exchanged cell phone numbers, instant messenger screen names, and e-mail addresses. We used all of these the entire time, whether instant messaging one another or sending out e-mails or text messages notifying everyone on the plans of the group. Also, laptops made it much easier for us as we were able to meet as a group and develop our presentations and post assignments as we finished them.
How do you think what you have learned in the Technology facet will affect your future career?
I think that what I learned in the Technology facet will affect my future career by just opening my eyes to different things. I took IST to get a little insight on the major and to learn more of what it was about. I liked the technology facet a lot and realized that there are so many more opportunities in this field than I had thought. Technology is profession that will definitely need people to be involved in, so getting the insight of this facet has introduced me and inspired me to possibly lean that way in deciding my major.
