Cassie's Neverending Completely Chaotic Life

My life is always busy and i'm always doing one thing after the next feeling like i never have a chance to rest. If i'm not going to classes or doing homework you can usually find me at the gym or some kind of sporting event. If i'm not doing any of those events I'm usually doing some kind of community service project. Trying to balance school, a social life, sports, clubs, and family is DIFFICULT.

What is a group?

After considering both my personal experiences and the online readings I've come to the conclusion that a group is a collection of individuals who will work together in unison to solve a specific problem. As easy as it seems, for a group to have complete collaboration and agree upon the specific stepping stones to reaching their goal they must in return makes goals for themselves. I do not believe every group will be successful because their are permanent features within each group that are almost impossible to change. Every member has their own personality whether they may be more passive or more dominant. The dominant personality will bring out the leaders in the group. They will provide support and encouragement for the passive members. A group must also have a diverse range of intellectual resoures to provide an unvailing core strength within the group. The ability to problem-solve and go beyond the outer limits of the imagination are the key elements to success. The most important features of a group should be the ability to respect and accept the various ideas from all group member even if it proves to be unusable towards the successfulness of the group.

Criteria for a group

formal social structure
face-to-face interaction
2 or more persons
common fate
common goals
interdependence
self-definition as group members
recognition by others

I completely agree with the criteria above. Each of these attributes is of tremendous importance to the well-being of any group. First of all, the formal social structure of a group is needed to create communication among the members in a civilized way without any hassels or headaches. The face-to-face interaction is crucial in any form of group structure. If you talk directly to your peers they will feel you are confident in them and that you mean business. It's just common sense to know that a group needs to be made of more than two people. The idea that a successful group can work through common fate is very true. It's difficult for most but some people are just meant to work in a group together. They agree with what each person is saying and can work on a task at hand without encountering the slightest glitch. Each group should definitely have their goals coincide with one anothers ideas. With everyone having common goals they will be able to commnicate and express their ideas more clearly without causing conflict. Each group must have interdependence. Without interdendence the group would be stressed and unorganized while thinking they had to accomplish everyone elses tasks in which they would actually be the downfall of the team and accomplish nothing but chaos. Interdependence works because everyone must rely on one another to help the group succeed in their own individual way. The members must also have self-definition and be recognized as a whole by other individuals or even other groups. They have to remember its not an individual that makes a group successful but its the cooperation and recognition that each member will share with one another. In conclusion, a group should work by this criteria to acheive their future goals.
